A new Festival of Books
September 14 – 15, 2018
Historic Bedford, Pennsylvania

The Allegheny Regional Festival of Books is a new celebration of books hosted annually in a scenic region of Pennsylvania. The Festival brings together local and regional authors under a main and a children’s tent, while storytellers, poets, and walking guides deliver live presentations around town.

The first Allegheny Regional Festival of Books will be held on September 15, 2018 in Bedford, Pennsylvania, with a Friday Evening Keynote Author Reception to kick off the event on September 14, at the Omni Bedford Springs Resort. As part of its mission, the Festival supports literacy programs year-round.

Reality Bites: Why Hope Matters More Than Ever In YA and Middle Grade

With violence ever-present in our world today, teens should be pulling more than books off the shelves. Hope may just be the most valuable sub-plot for young readers.

As readers we look for characters we can identify with. We search for signs that we're choosing the right paths in our own lives. We seek out heroes among the pages of our latest read. But when it comes to today's kids, hope may just be the most valuable plot device for young readers. Join award winning author, Stephanie Keyes, as she shares why it matters and one teacher's suggestions on how to keep the candles burning inside the teens browsing the stacks.
