Kate’s Kid Book Bash is named for Kate Dopirak (Doe – PEER – ick). Kate was a Pittsburgher, an active member of WPaSCBWI, and a rising star in the picture book world. She was a brilliant and funny mom, wife, sister and friend who passed away last October at the age of 43. Kate was a cheerleader to fellow writers and a big supporter of Reading Is Fundamental. Kate’s new book HURRY UP! will be released in 2020 by Beach Lane Books/Simon and Schuster.

Creative Activities Local author reads from her new release The Spellbinder's Sonata
Local author, Stephanie Keyes, was born and bred in the South Hills of Pittsburgh. Mrs. Keyes is the author of the six-title, YA Fantasy series, The Star Child [Inkspell Publishing]. Her work also appears in the anthologies, Ever In the After: 13 Fantasy Tales, Blood In the Shadows, Moonbeams and Magic, and Can't Buy Me Love. Her newest novel, The Spellbinder's Sonata, which is set in her beloved Pittsburgh, was an Amazon #1 new release in Teen Books.
Keyes is a 2018 International Book Awards finalist and a 2018 Reader's Favorite Award Finalist. She also writes adult romance as Gemma McKay.
When she's not writing, Keyes is an adjunct faculty member and technical writer. She holds an M.Ed. from Duquesne University and lives in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with her husband, two boys, and her goldendoodle, Duncan.
The Allegheny Regional Festival of Books is a new celebration of books hosted annually in a scenic region of Pennsylvania. The Festival brings together local and regional authors under a main and a children’s tent, while storytellers, poets, and walking guides deliver live presentations around town.
The first Allegheny Regional Festival of Books will be held on September 15, 2018 in Bedford, Pennsylvania, with a Friday Evening Keynote Author Reception to kick off the event on September 14, at the Omni Bedford Springs Resort. As part of its mission, the Festival supports literacy programs year-round.
