Tuneful Tuesday: Turns Up The Rock With AC/DC and Kansas

Happy Tuesday! Those of us in The States are gearing up for Thanksgiving this week. I’m already thinking about all of the yummies–like Mom’s homemade pumpkin log. Okay, I know, gotta focus. Let’s talk tuneage. Here are some of the tracks I’ve been listening to this week. I hope you enjoy!

I know, right? Were you surprised by my classic rock jump? Don’t be. I’m a huge fan of every genre (except country and sexist rap). Sometimes I need some a$%-kicking music to inspire me. And here we are.

AC/DC is an Australian hard rock band that got its start in 1973 when brothers Malcolm and Angus Young jump started the group. By the time their first album, High Voltage, came out in 1975, the brothers were the only original members left. 1977 saw the release of Powerage. Months after recording the famed Highway To Hell in 1980, lead singer, Bon Scott, died from an alcohol overdose. Brian Johnson replaced Scott, and they release Back in Black as a tribute to their late band-mate. The album became a world-wide bestseller.

Other albums include; For Those About to Rock We Salute You, The Razors Edge, Ballbreaker, Stiff Upper Lip, and Black Ice. With more than 200 million records sold worldwide, MTv named them the seventh “Greatest Heavy Metal Band of All Time.” Have a listen to my favorite track for this week, “Back In Black.”

Kansas

Maybe it’s all those episodes of Supernatural that I’ve been binge-watching. but I’m suddenly a huge Kansas fan. Kansas jump-started their career with my favorite song from today, “Carry On My Wayward Son.” Since then, they’ve released twelve albums. Their single, “Dust in the Wind”, sold over a million copies. Have a listen to this week’s pick and don’t forget to pay close attention to the bassline!
