Tuneful Tuesday Battles a Cover War #sleepingatlast #thecivilwars

Happy Tuesday! I’m back with another edition of Tuneful Tuesday. This week, I’m talking covers. I’m not usually a cover person, but lately there have been some really nice covers out there that are unique enough to make them stand out. In Randy Jackson’s words: “They made it their own, dog.”  So, with that in mind, here are two covers I’ve been listening to.

Featured Tracks

Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic by Sleeping At Last

I knew nothing about Sleeping At Last prior to their appearance on the Twilight Saga–Breaking Dawn Part One soundtrack. Then, one day I came across this album of covers and loved their take on Every Little Thing…Now you guys know that I am a die-hard Sting fan and have equal loyalty to the Police. Still, I loved this cover.

Even cooler, Sleeping At Last has only one member: singer and multi-instrumentalist Ryan O’Neal. The group got it’s start in Wheaton, Illinois, with Ryan O’Neal, Chad O’Neal on drums, and Dan Perdue on bass, however, Chad left in 2008, with Dan following three years later.

Talking In Your Sleep  by The Civil Wars

Joy Williams and John Paul White make up the US music duo, The Civil Wars. Their first full-length album Barton Hollow was released in 2011. They followed that release with a Grammy Award for Best Country Duo/Group Performance and Best Folk Album in 2012. The Civil Wars followed in in 2013.

I’ll admit that I’ll never give up on the original of this track by the Romantics, but this cover fit the mood of my currently WIP perfectly. It truly draws in the creepy quality of this song that even the Romantics didn’t quite hit. Have a listen!
