Spring Author Series: Linn B. Halton

It’s lovely to be here today with Stephanie for many reasons, not least because although we’ve probably only known each other a little over a year, so much has happened in that time. I first met Stephanie shortly after my debut novel Touched By The Light had been released and Stephanie was part-way through writing The Star Child. Well, we can both say it’s been an amazing year and hearty congratulations to Stephanie on her recent signing with Inkspell Publishing! I knew from the start that here was a very special lady and an amazing author.

[SK]: Thanks Linn! Also, thanks for joining me for this series!

I’m also delighted to be wrapping up Stephanie’s Spring Author Series and taking us into summer … so what to write? Well, in the summer of our ‘lives’ for most of us it’s the time when we discover true love. It’s a time that gives meaning to everything else we do, a time when we begin to learn what love is all about.

As an author and a true romantic I cannot write a story that does not have a feel good and positive quality to it. Why? Because I am ever the optimist and my instinct is to think well of people.  There is a lot of good in the world, but often it is the negative things that attract the biggest headlines.  So when I write I want to lift my spirits and celebrate the love that I have found in my own life.  There are people falling in love every minute of every day and many relationships will fail.  But many survive and that love develops into a much deeper thing; where one becomes more than a lover – a trusted friend, confidante, someone to lean upon in times of trouble – where mutual respect validates that love.  It isn’t as rare as some people perceive it to be, but true love has to be ‘self-less’ and if you are both prepared to put the other person first and give your love honestly and openly, then you get so much more back in return.

Perhaps that’s why I write – to create my own perpetual summer. Writing these days is all about having a brand and recently this caused me to stop and give thought to what reflects the essence of my writing. It didn’t take long to come up with a simple one-liner “Life, love and beyond … but it's ALWAYS about the romance…”.  No matter how many years roll by, whether it includes an element of the psychic, or links with astrology (my two passions), my focus will always be celebrating the good things in life. Love, good food, a good wine and the fact that life is what you make it! So make it a perpetual summer…

[SK]: Linn, for many of us, we're just seeing the change as Spring edges into Summer.   What signs do you look for?

I am a spring/summer person Stephanie, I love each little bud and leaf as it appears. I love watching the blue tits in the nesting box in the garden rearing their young and keeping a watchful eye that my cat, Tiggs, leaves them in peace.  I love blue skies, even when a chilly breeze makes it too cold to sit comfortably outside; I love the feeling that nature is renewing itself and presenting something fresh and new.

[SK]: What's makes this summer stand out for you?

What is rather extra special this summer, is that it heralds the launch of my second novel The Quintessential Gemini  by Sapphire Star Publishing on June 7, 2012. This is a fun, romantic read about a young woman named Katherine Dale, who IS the quintessential Gemini, so let me introduce her to you:

“I’m an avid follower of the renowned astrologer Mark Ainsley-Thomas. I regard him as a friend—I know he isn’t, but it’s my little fantasy. I haven’t checked my stars for today yet, perhaps that will give me inspiration. I read his forecasts every day and he keeps me heading in the right direction. As a stereotypical Gemini, I think he knows me very well and it feels

like he’s writing just for me. Of course, there are days when I don’t want to accept what he’s trying to tell me. If I don’t see it at the time though, when I look back I have to grudgingly admit he’s right at least 95 percent of the time. In my opinion, that puts him on a par with pure genius……..”

Katherine lives her life according to her forecasts, but what happens when leading astrologer Mark suddenly jets off to the USA and a guy named James Kingman is interpreting her star chart? Things don’t go well and Katherine’s life begins to fall apart. Will she find her happy ending? Find out on June 7th!

[SK]: Thanks Linn! It looks fabulous. I can't wait to pick up my copy!

  1. It’s lovely to be here Steph! Although we’ve only met virtually we are soon to meet in person and that makes today’s visit to wrap up your Spring Author Series even more special! Lxx

    1. Agreed! So glad you could join me! This series has been great fun and I’m glad you could be a part of it!

  2. Hi Linn and Stephanie! I really enjoyed reading about your perpetual summer Linn and the extract from ‘The Quintessential Gemini’ – which has now really whetted my appeitite to read the book. I’m certainly a quintessential Pisces and although I don’t live my life by ‘stars’ I do look to my stars for guidance all the time. I see my astrological forecast as something of a weather report for life events – a chance to pick the best day for something to have its best chance of success. So I simply love the concept of your new book. Great post and I’m looking forward to meeting you both at the Summer Audience reader/writer event in Tetbury Glos on Saturday 16th June.

    1. Hi Janice! Doesn’t Linn’s new book sound fabulous? I am looking forward to meeting both of you too! Just 17 days to go!

  4. Well, I think we’re all getting rather excited now – down to counting days until a Summer Audience. I feel so privileged to have met all of you and to watch your writing lives unfold – it feels like a family and that’s pretty special in this day and age where you meet so many people online, but seldom interact as we do! Thanks for dropping by, this post today marks the start of my celebration of The Quintessential Gemini – which I now hold in my hand! Thank you too for your very kind words. Lxxx
