Autumn Raine is a pop vocalist at the very top of her game. She’s a style icon, the paparazzi’s darling and everyone wants to be her friend. But when her safety is threatened, her whole life starts to unravel.

Enter Nathan Regan, an ex-elite soldier who is assigned to protect her. He’s a good man doing bad things but what drives him? Passion? Madness? Or grief? Demons from his past are threatening to consume him. Can he win the fight alone or will he have to admit he needs help?

As the threat deepens, Autumn starts to find out who she really needs in her life. Is there still room for personal assistant Janey or rapper boyfriend Rockweiler? When everyone around her is feeding her lies, how does she work out the truth? Does her record producer know more than he’s letting on? What is her mother, the British Foreign Secretary’s involvement in the situation? And can Autumn put her faith in a forty-something Jamaican woman who handles an automatic weapon as expertly as she cooks?

Eluding kidnap and trying to stay alive, can Autumn find the strength to be the person she longs to be? And can two people, poles apart, forge something strong enough to survive anything?

My Review

If you follow my blog at all, then you know that I often say “normally romances aren’t my thing”. That’s usually the case, but what I’ve found is that with a Mandy Baggot book, all bets are off. Baggot’s writing style is hip and engaging, her dialogue snappy and humorous. I found myself sucked into Autumn’s plight from page one. Here’s the interesting part, and what makes this such a great read. I didn’t want to like either character…in the beginning.

Autumn Raine is superficial, self-involved, and seems completely unappreciative of her glamorous life. Nathan Regan, is also instantaneously detestable, patronizing Autumn from their first meeting. However, the shift to engendering reader empathy is seamless in this book, in trend in all Baggot works. Before long our perception alters so that we’re not reading about two, obnoxious, narcissistic individuals, but instead about two lonely, damaged people who need to feel something again.

Security is a compelling, well-written work that will sucker you in immediately and refuse to let go. Whether you feel secure or not, or just like the idea of feeling that way with a stunning Baggot leading man, this book is for you!

What Makes You Feel Secure?

Today, Mandy and I are asking, what makes you feel safe/comfortable/secure?

I dont’ know about you guys, but for me, that’s being at home in my PJs with a nice cup of coffee and a “Passport To Europe” episode. Whenever I’ve had a bad day, those are my failsafe approaches. They really work! The hubster has to be with me too, of course.

  1. Hi Steph

Thank you so much for having me on your site today! WOW OH WOW! Thank you for that wonderful review! I can’t tell you how much that means. You know, as an author, you always worry whether readers are going to really ‘get’ your characters as much as you do!

OK, what makes me feel safe? Well today I am going for when I wear leggings, boots, my favourite hoodie and a baseball cap. Slouch out! And I know if those terrorists come knocking I’ll be ready for them!

    Mandy 🙂

    1. Mandy,
You are welcome anytime, lady! I hear you. When I read a book and I keep thinking about it – well, I know it’s a winner.

Oooh! Gotta have the hoodie! That’s a must have for safety. So glad you could stop by! 🙂

  2. Having read Security myself, I couldn’t agree more with Steph’s review. Security has nudged its way up to top of my list for Mandy Baggot’s books.

    1. Thanks very much Sue! I really appreciate your dropping by. I couldn’t agree with you more – this is my favorite – so far. 🙂

  3. Well I’m thinking you might already know, but for those that don’t, I thought Security was totally FABulous. A seriously excellent read. I loved it. I agree with the shift being seamless, Steph. I couldn’t wait to peel back the layers on Nathan 🙂 Fantastic review, Mandy. Thanks for sharing, Steph. What makes me feel secure? Being tucked under my duvet when the rain’s beating against my window pane. Course, I do have fearsome Snoops to see off any intruders while I am tucked! xx

    1. Sheryl,
Thanks so much for stopping by. I’m right there with you, only for me it’s a comforter and pouring rain. I also have no Snoops but a cockapoo princess. 🙂

  4. Fabulous review and I can’t wait to read it! I love Mandy’s books and it’s great to see her spreading her wings and getting into romantic suspense. Hearty congrats Mandy and I know I’m going to agree Steph!

  5. This looks like such a good book!! I do love a good romance every once in a while!! It’s great to see what another author thinks of the work because I have similar likes to you, Stephanie, in what I like to read (as well as loving you’re books) so I know that I’ll most likely love this book as well!!

What makes me feel secure is as well being comfortable in my recliner with my grandmother’s quilt wrapped around me. Rainy days are always the best to lounge around. I also have found that I feel so much better when there is some noise such as when I’m studying I play music or if I’m just doing chores around my apartment. At night I sleep with a fan on ALWAYS purely for the noise it produces! I think it makes me feel better or just helps me not hear the other creaking noises that occur in my apartment making me think something or someone else is there!!! ha

    1. Hi Jessica,
Ah, thank you so much for stopping by. You are too kind and I’m glad you enjoyed the review! Yes,Mandy always has these neat twists and turns that I love.

We must be twins. I too have a fan. My husband freezes all winter long. 🙂

  6. What a great review – I simply can’t wait to read Security!

What makes me feel safe? I think sitting in front of the fire on the sofa with my doggies, a glass of red wine and a Kindle full of books!

    Janice xx
